Liverpool's World Heritage Site
Liverpool was inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2004 and is a perfect destination for a holiday or citybreak with day excursions to explore North West England and North Wales whilst returning each evening to enjoy Liverpool’s vibrant city centre.
River in the SkyThis one day group or private tour is an extremely popular fully guided adventure and after a short tour of Liverpool, we travel 45 minutes in your people carrier or motor coach to our second World Heritage Site; Pontcysylite Aqueduct.
We take an awesome short walk across the canal towpath on “River in the Sky” created by Thomas Telford in the early 19th Century. For the faint hearted we can show you a view point without crossing the bridge and there are facilities here and a small museum and a cafe to buy refreshments.
Love Spoons & Welsh Cakes
We then enjoy a scenic drive as we continue to Betws-y-Coed where there are lots of craft shops and cafes for you to purchase your morning tea or coffee or why not try a Welsh Drop Scone or traditional cake called Bara Brith. Betws-y-Coed is beautifully situated at the junction of three rivers and close to the Swallow Falls and was largely developed in the Victorian Era.
We then take a route past the Ugli House! On one of the most spectacular mountain passes in the UK to the foot of Mount Snowdon, this area is steeped in folklore with the “Legend of Gelert”, Welsh Dragons, Edmund Hilary and fierce battles. Your guide will bring your journey to life explaining the welsh language and playing music on the coach by welsh singers such as Tom Jones or a magnificent Welsh Male Voice Choir.
You’ll stop for a short walk to a stunning location in the heart of the mountains and then we take you to the medieval town of Conwy for 2 hours where you can perhaps walk the ancient walls of or visit the magnificent castle built in 1283 by King Edward I as part of a much wider ring of castles during his conquest of Wales.
Conway is our third World Heritage Site & has a wonderful waterfront where you will find the fishing boats, the smallest house in Britain! traditional pubs and where you can also buy wonderful fish and chips. The hidden gem in Conwy is the Elizabethan House called Plas Mawr and you can prebook a combination ticket to visit the house and the castle at checkout.
Your day finishes driving through the Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno and Rhos on sea before rejoining the A55 where you will soon arrive back in Liverpool.
